An efficient way to make use of an old iMac 5K

With a direct connection by Thunderbolt the 5K iMac display is really usable in its stunning Retina mode. I use a now not so modern MBA M1 as my main computer but the display on the iMac screen is very smooth. You can notice from time to time when you move the mouse the refresh rate is not as stable as with a "real" external display but it is not something that should prevent you from trying this setup

A reliable alternative to Airplay

The cluttered Wi-Fi network in my lab makes Airplay unstable. Luna Display became for me a dependable solution that made it possible to simply connect my older Intel 5k iMac to my newer M3 MBP. The only limitation that I have is the 45 Hz refresh rate.

Breathing new life into an old Mac

Astropad has enabled me to use my 10-year-old obsolete (from Apple’s view) 27-inch iMac as a second screen for my brand new Mac Mini. The iMac remains a beautiful machine and I’m over the moon that I can continue to use it as a second screen. Astropad set-up was simple and using it is very quick. I use it so I can view static documents/web sites for reference while working on another screen. I’d recommend it.

I haven’t received the product yet. I assume it is related to the postal strike last month in Canada. I am looking forward to using it.
