Your Screen Protector is Making Your iPhone Worse

Really. With iPhone 17, Apple added an anti-reflective coating to the touchscreen display, but most screen protectors cancel it out.

That means more reflections, washed out colors, and a display that’s harder to see in harsh lighting conditions.

That’s why we built Fresh Coat, an anti-reflective screen protector that protects your phone and makes your screen easy to see in every kind of light.

Fresh Coat cuts 4.5x more reflections than standard glass screen protectors

Your phone screen is a precision instrument

Modern smartphone displays are carefully tuned optical systems, but they’re delicate and need to be protected.

Unfortunately, glass screen protectors add reflections to your display as light passes through them. Because protectors sit on top of your screen, they effectively cancel out the iPhone 17’s AR coating.

Fresh Coat was designed with this in mind and includes an anti-reflective coating that preserves colors, boosts contrast, and makes your screen easier to see in harsh lighting conditions.

In our lab tests, we found that Fresh Coat’s AR coating reduces reflections by 4.5x compared to standard glass screen protectors. Here’s the data:👇

Make your phone easier to see. Everywhere.

To understand how much light reflects from a phone screen into your eyes, we tested several iPhone models and screen protectors under direct light using a light meter.

Here’s what we learned:

  • iPhone 17 cuts reflections by about 50% when compared to iPhone 16 and other legacy iPhone models.
  • Reflectivity is more than doubled when adding a regular glass screen protector with iPhone 17. The protector disrupts the display’s AR properties.
  • Fresh Coat enhances AR clarity on any iPhone, creating a surface nearly 4x less reflective than the display on an iPhone 16 and 2x less reflective than iPhone 17’s display.

With Fresh Coat installed, reflectivity drops to 1%. That’s lower than the iPhone 17’s bare display and far lower than a display with a standard screen protector.

Most importantly, Fresh Coat is also available for legacy iPhone models. That means that users with older iPhones can use Fresh Coat to add protection while also giving their phone a huge visual boost!

FAQs

Does Fresh Coat affect Face ID or touch sensitivity?

No. Fresh Coat is thin enough to preserve accurate Face ID scanning and smooth touch input, so unlocking your phone and navigating the screen feels the same as bare glass.

Will Fresh Coat damage or remove Apple’s anti-reflective coating?

No. Fresh Coat adheres securely (but gently) to the display and can be removed cleanly without leaving residue or altering the factory coating.

Does Fresh Coat actually make the screen easier to see outdoors?

Yes. By lowering reflectivity, Fresh Coat reduces glare that competes with the display, making the screen easier to read in sunlight and harsh lighting.

How long does the anti-reflective coating last?

As long as Fresh Coat is attached! Because the AR coating is integrated into the glass rather than applied on top, it resists wear from cleaning, handling, and daily use.

Will Fresh Coat protect older iPhones as well?

Yes. Fresh Coat is available for iPhone 15 through iPhone 17 and reduces reflectivity on older models while adding durable screen protection.
